Adult activities - free

 

Free community activities for people aged 55 and over from Portslade. Art classes, Barista Training, Bridge, Gardening, Healthy History Walks, Bowling, Yoga, Meditation and Reminiscence. United Reformed Church Warm Space will be open for you to drop in on Wednesdays from 10.30am - 12.30pm. A warm welcome awaits you so drop in and say hello, enjoy a hot drink and some friendly chat, knitting or puzzles, or some time for yourself. Portslade Library Warm Space, Old Shoreham Road

Opposite the bottom of Foredown Road. They are open to people of all ages. It is not necessary to be a library member to use our space and facilities. We offer books, newspapers, magazines and board games and puzzles for use in the library.

 

Free Creative workshops to the Portslade 50+ community at Portslade Village Centre. Creativity Calling CIC will be holding 10 workshops on Thursdays from 11.30-1.30 with homemade soup provided. Currently 5 dates confirmed, 18th, 25th April and 9th,16th and 23rd May and will arrange 5 more later in the year. There will be a range of drawing and painting techniques and media to explore and some batik textiles work. Please book your place since spaces are limited.

Library groups - all free

 

Needlecraft group.

Practice your needlecraft skills and bring in your needlecraft projects. Share your knowledge and chat with like-minded people. On the first & third tuesday of the month, 10am - 12pm to check details click here 

 

Writing group. On the first Friday of the month from 10.30am to 12.30pm 

 

Reading group. Friendly informal book group, held on 2nd Saturday of each month, 10.30-12.00 

 

Healthwalks. Every Friday at 10am. Leaves from the Portslade library. The 45 minute walk is free, but there is a small charge for tea/coffee & biscuits afterwards. For more details click here

 

Portslade Feminists Book Club. The group will have an intersectional feminist vibe and be inclusive of all genders. They alternate between fiction and non-fiction. Everyone is welcome to come along....it is free, fun and perfect for meeting new people. Meet-ups are on the 1st Thursday of every month - from 5.30 until 7pm at Portslade Library, BN41 1XR. Easthill Park history trail. Discover the secrets of Easthill Park. It was home to a wealthy Victorian family. It was also the scene of a tragic incident during WWII. Click here for your free audio guide.

 

 

Over 60's Coffee and Cake Club. Throughout the summer, Easthill Park Café is delighted to offer a free hot drink and piece of cake every Tuesday at 2:00pm, for over 60s from the Portslade community. Don't hesitate to drop by for a cuppa and a chat with our lovely attendees and friendly staff. If possible we would like to hear from you beforehand so we can make sure there's enough for everyone. Time to Talk Befriending Services for young to connect with older people to prevent loneliness. TTTB offer face to face befriending and group befriending. The Tone Rangers Choir. A friendly pop/rock Community Choir based in Portslade. They sing everything from folk to rock, musical theatre to pop and everything in between. Benfield Valley Project are a small group of local residents who are passionate about protecting and sharing the beauty of our local wildlife and wild spaces. Mile Oak Boxing Academy. An amateur Boxing Club affiliated with England Boxing for 16+ (children ages 10-15 years old also available). All the coaches are trained to level one and level two standards, equipped with certifications in Safeguarding, DBS, and First Aid. Zumba Gold with Jo at Courthope Close, BN41 2LZ is a low intensity dance fitness class ideal for beginners, over 50's and active seniors. There is no jumping, spinning or knee twisting in any of the routines. Easy to follow choreography which improves coordination, flexibility, range of motion, balance, toning and light cardio. ​

The music is a mix of Latin and International sounds including Flamenco, Bollywood, Salsa, Cumbia, Indian Pop and some good old pop thrown in!  A 45 minute Zumba Gold class is a safe place to meet new people, improve your physical and mental wellbeing, be part of a community. Running

 

Run Talk Run is a safe and open space to talk how you are doing: the good times, the not so good times and everything in between. Anyone can join but it is a 5k out and back so good walking pace and maybe a bit of jogging is preferable 5km. They don't care about speed or pace and nobody is left behind'. If you are interested in starting yoga or already practice and are looking for a local class, join Helen every Tuesday at South Portslade Community Centre for a nourishing Slow Flow at 6:30pm (60mins). The first class for free and then on a donation basis going forward. Whatever you can afford, most students paying somewhere between £5 - £10.
