ART CLASSES  

Portslade based and award-winning artist and teacher, Isabel Mullery  (www.isabelmullery.co.uk) , will lead the course.Creativity coaching is about empowering you on your creative journey. Isabel can offer you support, help you set goals, develop a fresh perspective and problem solve. You could be beginning your creative journey or have an already established practice.” You can book for one or both sessions.  

Session 1 Lino printing. July 5th. 1pm to 3pm 

Design, safely cut and print your own lino motif. Explore symbols to come up with your personal design and once cut you will have the opportunity to print this on a range of papers. 

Session 2 Batik. July 12th. 1pm to 3pm 

Design your own colourful image, apply batik wax safely onto cotton fabric to create your design and dye in colours of your choice.

BARISTA TRAINING 

This one-hour course will teach all you need to know about making the perfect Americano, Cappuccino and Latte. Be prepared to be educated and caffeinated by the end of the session. Spaces limited to just three people per session. Early booking recommended.

BRIDGE – A complete beginner's session to learn how to play. July 20th. 10am to 4pm 

Bridge isn't hard to play - it's just fiendishly hard to play well. Starting from scratch, you will learn the basics of the game and get stuck in, learning and gaining experience through play.  The course is led by Andy Osborn, a fully accredited (EBTA) and experienced tutor. Spaces limited to eight people. 

 

GARDEN CLUB 

Working at Portslade’s medieval manor, this club will help maintain the manor grounds, tend the medieval herb garden and enjoy lots of tea and biscuits.

HEALTHY HISTORY WALKS 

These slow-paced, informal learning walks have proved very popular over the years. Here are this years selection. 

Sat, April 6th – 10am – Easthill Park tour. The park was once a large garden for the wealthy Blaker family. Find out about their life, the Great Storm and a tragic spitfire accident. Leave from and return to the Easthill Park Community Cafe for free tea and biscuits.  

Tues, May 14th – 1pm – Foredown Tower. This two-mile walk will cover the history of Portslade’s lost windmills and the Foredown Isolation hospital. Leave from and return to the Easthill Park Cafe.  

Fri, June 7th – 2pm – Lords of the manor. Going back to the Saxon period, we discover the good, bad and famous Lords of the Manor of Portslade. Includes a tour of the medieval manor ruins. Meet at St Nics church main door.  

Wed, July 3rd – 1pm – Conservation area. A tour around the Old Village, with info on the old brewery, the manor houses/convent and the village pubs. Meet at St Nics church main door  

Sat, July 13th – 10am - Wealthy Portslade. Victorian Portslade was awash with millionaires. Learn their stories, see their resting places and discover the Portslade rich list. Meet at the Easthill Park Community Cafe. Ends at Emmaus.    

Sat, Aug 31st – 10am – Foredown Tower. This two-mile walk will cover the history of Portslade’s lost windmills and the Foredown Isolation hospital. Leaves from and return to the Easthill Park Cafe.   

 

LAWN BOWLING SESSIONS AT PORTSLADE BOWLS CLUB 

If you would like to give bowls a try you would be most welcome to join us. Portslade bowls club is a friendly, inclusive club for people of all standards. Free coaching is available for beginners, so do not worry if you haven’t played bowls before. All you need is flat shoes – all other equipment is supplied.  

April 26th, May 31st, July 5th – Fridays – 6pm to 8pm. Meet at Portslade bowls club, Victoria Park. 

 

MEDITATION 

Portslade-based instructor, Indie is a respected yoga instructor. You can find out more about her at:  www.indiewellness.co.ukThis class is aimed at those who wish for a space for reflection, inspiration and sharing. Brings bring a yoga mat or beach towel. Please note this class is open air.

REMINISCENCE CAFE  

An informal gathering at the Easthill Park Cafe as we delve back to a time when there was no VAR and just one sub, phones were just used for phoning people and weeds did not consume the pavements. All activities at Easthill Park Community cafe from 1pm to about 2ish. 

June 21st – Football memories. Come share football stories, memorabilia, comics and play Subbuteo. There is even a free pie and cup of tea at half time.  

Aug 2nd – Toys from our childhood. Train sets, mouse trap, action men and more. Become a child again, but play nicely. All participants get a free goody bag of 1970s sweets, plus a glass of pop.   

Aug 23rd – Portslade Urban Council. A talk and discussion lead by Councillor Alan Robins on the history of Portslade Council, and how Brighton became a city. Free tea and biscuits.   

 

YOGA
