Brighton & Hove City Council is currently consulting on the A259 Hove to Portslade Active Travel Scheme and would like to hear your views on this. The scheme extends from Fourth Avenue, Hove all the way to the western city boundary (near Mill Rd, Fishersgate). They have looked at improvements they can make for all users along this key stretch of the seafront. The plans include:
• A separated two-way cycle lane
• New pavements and bus stops
• Safer, better aligned crossings and junctions
• New loading and disabled parking bays

Brighton and Hove's free swimming for children and young people has been extended. Councillor Alan Robins told the Argus: "We're very pleased to announce that our council-owned pools and Saltdean Lido will keep supporting thousands of children and young people across the city to swim for free for another year.

Increase in recycling items for your bin
From Monday, June 30) residents can recycle containers such as yoghurt pots, meat trays, fruit punnets, margarine tubs and soup pots.
These can go in both domestic and recycling and communal recycling (bins with light blue lids) alongside plastic bottles, tins and cans, paper and cardboard.

Help save our bees. An invasive pest, the Asian Hornet was identified by a member of the public and confirmed by DEFRA in Shoreham, between Buckingham Park and Middle Road on the 6th June. Awareness is key for preventing this insect becoming established in the U.K. due to its appetite and utter decimation of other insects including the Honey bee.
The Asian Hornet is very distinctive. It has yellow legs and a black abdomen with a yellow banded stripe. If spotted it should not be killed but photographed, location noted and reported immediately. To report it, you can either download the Asian Hornet Watch App and submit there or by email to alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk

For anyone living in Portslade with hearing loss, the RNID Near You service have opened a new venue in Brighton and Hove and now have drop-in sessions at St Peters Medical Centre and the Hove Polyclinic, as well as five other venues across West Sussex.
providing support to people living with hearing loss, tinnitus and deafness. The RNID is a charity that are offering drop-in sessions which are completely free, and provide essential, practical support for people with hearing loss.
The sessions enable people with NHS hearing aids by providing new batteries, retubing, cleaning and maintenance advice, as well as providing information about living with hearing loss and tinnitus. We can also support people in connecting their hearing aid to their mobile phone device, as well as helping people to access local support services and benefits. If a person comes in concerned about potential hearing loss, we can provide a free, quick and easy hearing check, and offer support and guidance on next steps if the check shows signs of hearing loss.
