Unanimous vote by councillors to take a deeper look at Airbnbs, to see if more regulation is needed.
On the 16th July 2024, Green councillor Ellen McLeay asked that officials prepare a report aimed at giving the council more power to deal with the issue.
Ms McLeay said families were being "priced out" of the city centre and short-term lets were creating "ghost neighbourhoods".
Ms McLeay cited a University College London study which found that areas of the capital with the most Airbnb listings tended to have higher weekly rents and a lack of affordable housing, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Holiday rental sites Airbnb and Vrbo currently list 4,500 Brighton and Hove properties, she said.

Warning by Brighton and Hove City Council after a company advertisement on Facebook and reported by the Argus on Monday 12th August, about an inflatable park event stated to be on the Victoria Recreation Ground, Portslade, in September 2024.
The council said the company, calling themselves The Big Jump - Inflatable Park, has not approached the council for permission to host the event on the land, which is council-owned.
The owner of a similar inflatable park event has claimed the pictures being used to advertise this Portslade event are his and are being misused.

Southern Water, will be conducting essential repairs to a manhole frame and cover on South Street, Portslade (BN41 2LE).
To ensure the safety of the workmen, a road closure will be required. The work is scheduled to begin on September 12, 2024, at 19:00, and is expected to take approximately 4-5 hours to complete.
King Alfred Leisure Centre Relocation
A new leisure centre for Hove and Portslade is set to be built on the site of the King Alfred.
