Brighton rock, Brighton crime. June 14th at 10am. “Brighton, like all seaside resorts, has a double face, one of glitz, glamour and fun, but also one of criminality and dark deeds. Graham Greene’s ‘Brighton Rock’ in 1938 showed that face as did the 1947 film starring Richard Attenborough. Naughty boys – A second chance. June 21st at 11am. Many will remember the ‘naughty boys school’, perched on top of the west hill. The history of Portslade Industrial School, its activities and what went on behind closed doors. Led by Trevor Povey

Football coaching for kids for 8-12 year olds from the Russell Martin Football Academy. Sessions are suitable for all abilities. June 17th and 24th. From 15:40 - 16:40. Spaces limited to 16. Booking essential.
Cake baking sessions for kids for 6-11 year olds. Free baking classes for kids at the Easthill Park Community Cafe. Children will have the opportunity to bake and creatively decorate their own cupcakes under the supervision of experienced instructors. Dates: June 28th & July 12th 1pm to 2pm . (8 spaces per session.)

All walks and activities take place on Benfield Hill Local Nature Reserve unless otherwise indicated. Please note that events listed with * require prior sign-up to attend.

Vintage Summer Fair at Emmaus, 28th June at 10am–4pm at Drove Road, Portslade, BN41 2PA.
FREE entry – Family-friendly fun!
Get ready for a feel-good day packed with vintage charm, music, food, and creative fun – all in support of individuals who’ve experienced homelessness. Live music & performances. Giant games: Hook-a-duck, Jenga, Ludo & more. Picnic boxes from our café – enjoy them in the secret garden (now reopening!). There will also be a silent auction.

Windrush Celebration Day on Sunday 22 June at the Royal Pavilion Garden. 12–4pm Free, drop-in. Celebrate the Windrush generation. People from the Caribbean and across the commonwealth answered the call to help rebuild Britain after the ravages of WWII – from nursing in Brighton General Hospital, to transport, to engineering.
